Abby says - Evening Routine

10:00 PM:  Pack tomorrow's lunch.
10:15 PM:  Lay out tomorrow's outfit.
10:30 PM:  Blog in bed
11:00 PM:  Sleepytime

Am I forgetting anything?

  1. you might want to gather stuff like keys, purse, etc in one spot so you're not looking around in the morning

  2. Just a note - I'm told something like "blog in bed" should just say "blog". Or perhaps "blog on the couch", especially if you have trouble actually falling asleep once you force yourself into bed. They tell me beds should only be for sleeping (well, and potentially sex), and if you enforce that rule then you will have a much easier time of actually falling asleep (eventually once your body is used to it). So perhaps you should force yourself to blog somewhere else.

  3. Deana -

(This is Seph speaking) - I agree with you on the "in bed" is for sleeping thing. This is something my sleep therapist stresses. By training the body that bed = sleep, your sleep is supposed to become more efficient - less lying awake, deeper sleep, better rhythms, etc.

That being said, I'm all for Abby doing whatever feels the most comfortable, as everyone is obviously unique.

Personally though, I heed the "bed = sleep" mantra, and it's helped me immensely.

  4. Abby here! That is definitely something to consider, thank you for the advice. To me, sleep is a boring thing I must do in order to not go mad. Usually if I'm on the nets on the couch or in the office I stay there simply because (much like a 3 year old) I don't wanna go to bed. If I'm already in bed, I feel sleepy. However, I'm also told that computer screens tend to keep people awake longer because your eyes register the light and trick your brain into thinking it isn't sleepytime yet. This I heard from a therapist, and I haven't researched it further.

    Sounds like experimentation time.

  5. I don't know if it works or not -- to be honest, I'm still really bad about doing other things in bed myself. But it had been mentioned to me on multiple occasions when I complain that I have trouble falling asleep. So just wanted to throw it out there. Good luck!
